Princess Coat

Thrifted princess coat

So this wool coat is a work in progress. I found it at the same time and in the same charity shop I discovered my navy vintage coat. It was a strange combination of too big and too small, but I fell in love with it. I had been hoping to find a princess coat, and I thought the velvet trim was sublime. The sleeves were too short, but there was extra lining, so I was able to use the same technique I used on the other coat to lengthen them. The coat itself was so long, it overwhelmed me, so I chopped off the bottom and hemmed it. Clearly, from these photos, I do not know how to hem a wool coat - lol. I'm going to rip out these stitches and attempt so sort of invisible hem. If anyone has experience with this, I'd love to hear your advice.

This look is me trying to breath in a gust of icy air. It may be March, but it's still wool coat weather.

    1. Thanks. I thought they were a bit eerie too. I think it was the bleak weather. A lot of times I want to rebel against gloomy weather and wear something cheerful, but that day it just seemed right to blend in with the atmosphere. :-)

    1. Thank you very much, but I'm really just stumbling around in the dark when it comes to alteration. We'll see how this turns out. :-)

    1. Oh, I wish I really knew how to sew. I "sew by ear," as I call it.

      Thanks!

    1. Oh my goodness, Daria - I was thinking the same thing. When I chopped the hem off it reminded me of a Dear Creatures coat too.

      Thanks for dropping by!
